Planning Meeting for June Craft Sale

We will have a planning meeting for the June 9th Craft Sale on Monday, April 30th at 7:00 pm.
Our Fall Craft Sale was a great success, and we are really looking forward to this one! If you want to volunteer (and we hope you do!!) to help, please come to the meeting and let us know- we will definitely put you to work :-)
We’re hoping to have more games for the kids (inside and outside games), crafts, and cake walks (Bingo maybe?).
We’re open to ideas, so stop on by. See you there!
The Center’s proceeds from the day will go toward our playground fund. We’ve purchased the first piece, and are waiting on delivery of the parts:

sycamore-set

Thanks to everyone for your help in getting this far! We’ll announce the installation date as soon as we have it (will need some volunteers for that as well).

Convenience Center Meeting – tonight @7:00 PM

Mike Hymes will host a meeting tonight, Monday, March 26th, starting at 7:00 p.m. He will discuss the new convenience center, and update us on the County’s plan for the location. Whether you are in support of or are against convenience center, Mike would love the opportunity to hear your concerns so they can be taken into consideration while the plans are designed.
At our last monthly meeting, the Thompson Valley Community Center voted unanimously in support of the convenience center being located on the property at the center. We feel it would be a great addition to the community. With gas prices at an all time high, this would help residents save money by cutting out trips to the landfill or to the neighboring convenience center in Tannersville. The location of the Community Center would be a logical location, as it is central between the upper and lower parts of the Valley. We feel that with proper landscaping and fencing, the dumpsters can be shielded from view, while still allowing residents to clean up their properties without breaking the bank.

Meeting Reminder- tonight @ 6:30

Just wanted to remind everyone that the planning meeting for the October Craft Fair is tonight, August 30th, at 6:30 pm. Make sure you drop by!

We’ve had some busy-bees at the Center lately. We have new flower beds in front of the center thanks to Graham Buchanan and Nathan Allison. We had new windows installed in the shelter and in the back doors (no more dark hallway!!) The ladies from Tazewell County Jail helped clean the building, and did a great job. And, last but not least, Barbara Smeltzer and Eula Earls will be painting the hallway on Friday.
We’re so thankful for each and every volunteer! Keeping the center going is a huge task, and we rely on our volunteers. Thanks to each and every one of you.

I also want to remind everyone that we still have our Book Exchange program. We have a nice selection of books and magazines. You can either bring your own and exchange book for book- or you can buy them. Books are 50 cents and magazines are 25 cents.

Work began on the Thompson Valley Community Center in 1993. Thanks to amazing volunteers, the renovations are now complete. The center includes a kitchen, dining room, reception room, community conference room, outdoor shelter, and basketball court.

For rental information, call Susan at 276-970-1780 or Kathleen at 276-988-7266.
Room rental is $30 per day.
Shelter rental is $50 per day, with the option of renting the kitchen (if available) for $10 more.
